Letterpress Business Cards!

We LOVE printing business cards! Nothing more fun than running up some fun, funky little designs and getting to work with great clients in the process. Brewery business cards have been really big this past month thanks to the Portland based Craft Brewers Conference which went down a couple weeks back. Here are a couple of the cards we ran along with a few others from recent past.

Cozy Koozies

We at D & J drink coffee - lots and LOTS of coffee. And we got to thinking, why not give something back to our local coffee joint? As we started thinking about expanding into new materials, we did a test run of coffee koozies for our the nearby Round Table Coffee Works. Now the locally-roasted fresh brew looks as good as it tastes :) Keep a lookout for us - we might be around your favorite coffee cup, next!

A Very Wild Wedding

Kristen and Nicholas are super-ultimate Minnesota Wild fans.  When they approached us with the idea to turn the standard wedding invitation into something a little more edgy, the idea wheel started churning.

We thought: only a die hard fan would allow hockey tickets for their wedding invitations.  But not only were Kristen and Nicholas completely receptive to the idea--they loved it.  The gloves were off! To put it mildly, the ticket concept was uniquely them.  Few other invitations we've designed here in the letterpress shop can compare to the intensity of these. Two-color, color overlays, a little trapping and perforation along one side for that ticket stub look; These invites have all the bells and referee whistles!

We want to thank the couple for their creativity, trust and willingness to be a little more daring than the norm.  The results of this round of printing were incredible and wouldn't have been possible without their team spirit.  The popularity of this invitation has surpassed all our expectations, wildly popular among sports fans, travel aficionados and Minnesota natives.

Letterpress Printing On Black Paper

Recently in the shop, it's been all about the silver ink on black paper!  After experimenting with various colors of ink, the silver wins out every time. The silver ink yields the sharpest results... hands down. Silver is considered to be the most opaque color available. Opaque white inks pale in comparison to the luminosity of silver ink.  White ink never prints purely white; it comes out more of a muddy gray than anything else.  So instead, we highly recommend using silver. Have a looky-loo for yourself.

BEST WEDDING invites EVER

Check out bestweddingever.us. It's a wedding blog created by one of our long time friends and now client. Dick and Jane Letterpress just completed their letterpress wedding invitations which were designed by groom, Matthew White. Tiffany's Blue, and Dr. Pepper. Nothing Better. Many thanks to Matthew and Nicole for giving us the opportunity to assist in letterpress printing for their wedding day.

Affordable Letterpress Printing

Dick and Jane Letterpress offers the nations most affordable letterpress printing. Our up-front, no-hassle pricing offers brides a quick and easy browsing/shopping experience. Select your favorite design, view our prices, get a quote... it's that simple! Here are a few general rules of thumb when considering all the different sizes.

1. An A7 is the most common size for Wedding Invitations. 2. An A1 is the most common size for your rsvp. 3. While an RSVP postcard is definitely super cool - it can often be more expensive than a standard A1 and envelope because a postcard usually requires printing on both sides. 4. Can you switch up sizes for something more outside the norm... ABSOLUTELY. Just be sure to consider envelope size restrictions. 5. Accompanying cards can come in any size you want. It all depends on how much info you want to fit.

Dick and Jane Letterpress wishes you all a great wedding day!

What a surprise! We received a package in the mail on the third of July from ProjectWedding.com. Inside was a congratulations letter. Dick and Jane Letterpress has been chosen as one of Minneapolis ~ St.Paul's "Best of Project Wedding" vendors for 2008. WOW! Who knew? According to the details of the letter, the award is granted to the top 5% of wedding professionals in the area. You'll note that our site now has a "badge" sent from PW. Here are a few reviews from PW members.

- "...we came up with a really unique template, they were fun to work with, and I had the cards in less than two weeks."

- "...we were really able to express ourselves creatively with the two owners, who listened to us, offered their input, and made some really beautiful cards."

- "The invitation cards were perfect. My favorite part would be the save the date cards, which was a picture of a calendar. It was something unique and original that I just hadn’t seen before, and really loved. They really have so much to choose from, so much originality, that I think every bride should make them their first stop."

Celebrating Independence Day with Dick and Jane

Greetings all you charming letterpress people. Dick and Jane celebrated this 4th of July with the community of Saint Anthony Park. Each year local business owners and the neighborhood come together to celebrate Independence Day with a parade and good old fashioned fun. We rolled a proof press out onto the street and printed up free letterpress posters with the folks from the neighborhood. The image above shows a final print now hanging in the shop. Over the holiday we captured some videos documenting letterpress printing and our community. Check it out!

(above) Captured in this video is Katie Evans at Dick and Jane Letterpress. Katie is cutting down a big block of linoleum for the proof printing poster project for 4th of July, 2009! The posters will be printed on the recently refurbished Challenge proof press. It's a little bit of a departure from our regular letterpress wedding invitation printing but overall, it's good fun for the kids.

(above) Watch as I (brian durk) print on the challenge proof press incorporating linoleum cuts and wood type. It was a patriotic day for letterpress printing!

One day untill "Baby Day!"

That's right folks. Tomorrow is our due date! At this point, we're pretty certain that the baby action will not be happening tomorrow but then again... you never know. Above I've included a picture of Natalie quietly talking to the baby. I think she's asking him if he's got plans tomorrow. I guess we'll find out. In the mean time, it's back to the wedding invitation printing for me and back to the couch for Natalie. Keep checking back if you're interested.

Oh yeah... FYI ~ I sometimes write about letterpress printing too. So... if you're into that, I promise things will be back to "letterpress awesomeness" in no time.
