Featured on the Knot!

Featured Wedding!

Finally got my hands on a few of the pictures from Katie and Aaron's wedding. Their wedding was featured on the Knot some time ago but I'd had a really hard time finding the pics to upload. Today I was surprised to see that the images and the original feature were magically linked to our Knot profile! Katie is an amazing illustrator and she and Aaron designed the invitation suite together. Together with Dick & Jane, we nailed down the colors, paper and final details. Everything turned out wonderfully and the pics from the ceremony/reception were just AMAZING! Have a look for yourself!

WeddingLovely-blog-logo We recently worked with Jessica Wonders (Jessica Wonders Events) on a style shoot and it turned out absolutely stunning! Even more exciting, the whole thing has been featured on the Wedding Lovely blog! You can check out all the details including the cute, tiny menus we came up with and hopefully the post and pictures will bring a little inspiration to your plans! Many thanks to Jessica for organizing the whole thing and to Wedding Lovely for sharing everyones hard work!

Apples & Cinnamon

round 2

We did this fall wedding duotone set for Anastasia and Robert around this time last year. The set had been photographed and ended up being used in a few displays for wedding shows. Meanwhile, we completely overlooked adding a pic to the blog for all to enjoy. The set was based on our Spring Leaf design and produced on a natural white paper with a wonderful fall color pallet. An absolutely darling invite suite for a fantastic couple!

Birdman of Boston

Yeah - We have a good friend Brandon Bird of Little Big Bird Design in Boston. He does a lot of installation, museum and your everyday print graphics type work. Well he sent us this super cute design for he and Mickie's wedding announcement. We printed it up to his specifics and just had to get a few pics before we mailed them out to him. There are more designs where this came from so if you see something you like, just let us or Brandon know!

Letterpress in Gold

We've had a few inquiries in this past week about letterpress wedding invitations printed in a gold ink. I thought it might be good to show an example here on the letterpress blog. I've included a pic below of a project we printed with a gold ink. The result is clean and luxurious contrast. We also have a champagne gold which has a little lighter contrast but still very very elegant. Thanks for visiting the site. Feel free to contact us with any questions!

TCBA Wedding Show! - This Sunday!

We are gearing up for another exciting wedding show at the Convention center in Downtown Minneapolis. We are at booth number 657. Be sure to come by and get your $50 coupon, enter to win a FREE invitation set and see our letterpress wedding invitation work first hand! We had a blast last year. It gets so crazy in there but its a lot of fun. Music, food, beverages and all sorts of great vendors alike. If you are looking for something to do this Sunday... this is it! See you all there!

Mpls-StPaul Magazine Feature

We are very excited to announce that Dick and Jane Letterpress has been featured in the seasons issue of Mpls St Paul Magazine's Wedding edition in an article titled "Letter Perfect." Four separate pieces were featured in this 5 page article including a letterpress plane ticket, an oversized full-bleed Script sample titled "Hollywood". A customer submitted design for the Lucas' and a wonderfully popular Letterpress Coaster design. Here are a few photos from the article. Many thanks and appreciation to the MSPL Magazine for thinking to include us in their publication. Enjoy!

Visitors from another planet!

We were lucky enough to finally reconnect with some old friends last weekend. Lauren and Michael Crigler (a.k.a. Prank Design) were are staying in Minnesota for the summer developing a CSA with family members and getting their fill of the boundary waters area. Michael and Lauren will be in the area for another month or two so hopefully we will get a chance to see them again here in the next few weeks. We love you guys! - DJL

A Sneak Peek

Here's a quick shot I took the other day while trying to gather, sort and catalog a bunch of our recent work. The letterpress coasters have been super popular as well as the more vibrant color choices with letterpress invite suites. We're gearing up for the seasonal wedding shows so be sure to come visit our booth at your next wedding event! We'll post dates and info as the shows approach. xoxo - DJL

So Many projects ~ So Little Time!

Summer is going by so quick! EEK! We have been slammed over the past few months making it difficult to keep the blog as updated as we'd like. Sonny just turned 2. We have a new intern and a new employee. We have recently finished some really amazing print projects. Took a trip to California. New Equipment and new friends. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. Here's a pic or two from the Parade that runs just down our street.

Thanks for visiting the letterpress blog. More to come very soon.

Flowers and Bees

Janis rules. We have done a ton of work for her this year. Letterpress Save-the-Dates, a complete invite suite, and thank you cards. What makes working with Janis and Johannes so fun? They have a really great aesthetic. Note the two bees fluttering off on the right with the great big flower on the left which grounds the whole invitation flawlessly. Their invite text is the next layer; centered, clean, and meticulously organized. Love it. Thanks for visiting the letterpress blog. More posts coming very soon!

Lathey Letterpress Coasters

Been super busy this year with all sorts of really fun jobs. I hardly have a chance to snap any photos and get the letterpress blog updated. Finished early yesterday and the sun was just right so I put a little camera time in. Here's a letterpress coaster we finished for a gal in Colorado. She did the design work herself and everything turned out really really nice. Enjoy!

Tickets Please!

Now Boarding all Brides and Grooms. Nickie came to us with a really cool opportunity to do a Plane ticket themed wedding invitation set! We sat down together and went back and forth over all sorts of design options. We settled with 1-color on a #10 card with all the info and a ticket stub perforation running down one side (similar to the wild tickets from a few months back). I was in a rush but I did manage to snap a few pic with the camera phone before they were picked up. Have a look. enjoy! Thanks for visiting the letterpress blog!

Erin and Nick Follow Up

Erin and Nick followed up with us last week. You may or may not remember their previous invite set? It included tons of pointy fingers, calendars, and funky text.  Any hoot... They needed an additional tidbit card to match their original wedding invitation design so we came up with this little number printed on a tiny tidbit card.

Thanks for visiting the letterpress blog!  It's been a very very busy wedding season but we are determined to keep on this blogging track. Lots of good stuff around for us to share so check back often for more updates.

Presenting "Hollywood!"

So we've had this design in the works for some time when along came Megan. She was looking for something a little more powerful than the more formal script style. We thought it was the perfect time to unveil it and it was exactly what she was shooting for. After a few small edits to really bring the design to life, we've started production. We're still getting everything printed but I just had to stop and sneak a pic to share on the blog today. The design is titled "Hollywood" and will be listed in our wedding collections soon.

Late Nights in a Letterpress Shop

Every now and again I'll stay a little late to get us just a little ahead of the game. When the work day is through, everything is silent. Just as I was about to turn out the last light, I decided to take a quick couple of pics. The lighting was a little dramatic and after a long day of running presses, all I could think about was good my presses are to me. I love my machines.

Letterpress Printing On Black Paper

Recently in the shop, it's been all about the silver ink on black paper!  After experimenting with various colors of ink, the silver wins out every time. The silver ink yields the sharpest results... hands down. Silver is considered to be the most opaque color available. Opaque white inks pale in comparison to the luminosity of silver ink.  White ink never prints purely white; it comes out more of a muddy gray than anything else.  So instead, we highly recommend using silver. Have a looky-loo for yourself.

Check out the letterpress blog for more in the near future.

Modern Love - MoCA Wedding Invitation

We were very excited when approached by Kelsey to create such a modern invitation suite. It's a modern kind of love! They were married at the wonderful Mass Museum of Contemporary Arts and they wanted their letterpress invitations to fit right in. We incorporated an exquisite type style and blocked type setting combined with a blind emboss of a giant coil. Why a coil you ask? Great question. Anyone who has visited the museum's event space will immediately recognize this item as the same 10ft copper coil that greets guests as they enter the through way. It was a kind of prequel for what the guests were to anticipate. We absolutely love this set and are so very proud to add it to our letterpress blog. Many thanks to Kelsey for being so inviting to creativity with this one. xoxo - DJL

New Equipment Day!

Yeah! The day is finally here! We've had a whole collection of new equipment ready for delivery since just after Thanksgiving but given the MN weather, delivery has been delayed week after week. Finally, the roads are clear enough to transport a few tons of iron from one shop to another. We've got a new Kluge, a new cutter, an extra 8ft work top, and half horse motor for the Damon & Peets and some much needed dust bags for some of the equipment. With all the new stuff coming in, we'll be posting a few old items for sale in the next week. Check the MN Craigslist and Briarpress for listings.
