Come September it's common to find invitations featuring warm reds and browns but sometimes it's more fun to push further into the concept. Seasonal invitation designs can be approached in so many more ways! Autumn Sweater- (Seasonal Wedding Invitation Design) - is very subtle but we snuck a few season-appropriate ideas into the final concept.
We often print others design work but every now and then we're given the opportunity to really let our design skills shine. This custom designed invitation was a labor of love and we had the pleasure of adding a few fancy print features to the concept as well. We included a touch of foil along with both letterpress printing and a blind impression. The pattern in the back is similar to a knit sweater texture which naturally lent itself to the diamond-shaped center area. Once we had these elements flowing it was just a matter of selecting the right fonts! The gold foil was an elegant exchange for the usual brown colors and the silver ink spoke more directly to our cozy Minnesota trees blowing in the fall breeze. The wedding was last week and it sounds like everyone was pretty pleased (as were we).

The weather is finally starting to turn for the better here and we have so much on the horizon! We've been hard at work this winter creating some really amazing work for brides and businesses alike! We're very excited to announce a few new designs and we're also going though the site and cleaning house! Here's a sneak peek at a couple things we've had come through recently.
We're in St Paul Minnesota so we really like to take as much advantage of the summer season as possible. This last summer lasted a little longer than usual but now as the fall approaches I can't help but daydream about warmer days, vacations and day tripping across the country. Here's a pics from driving across the tops of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Such amazing memories and adventures made this last year.
Woo Hoo! We received an email last night that one of our weddings was featured on the Mpls/StP Magazine Aisle File! Big congrats to Catherine, Ken and the rest of the vendors that took part in this one. Dick & Jane provided the design, letterpress printing and foil stamping on these absolutely beautiful wedding invitations. We can definitely attribute the inspiration to the venue and it looks like Olive Juice Photography did a great job knocking this one out of the park. We're sol happy to see our clients and our work highlighted for the rest of the Twin Cities to celebrate. What a success! If you're not familiar with the Big Fake Wedding, definitely check them out! We recently took part in their Minneapolis event at Le Meridien Chambers Hotel by producing a custom invitation suite geared to fit their wedding theme. Our design aesthetic was "Folk-Floral-Fabulous!" We created a custom gold foil and digital print along with a matching rsvp, envelopes with printed labels, coasters and novelty tags. The different finish techniques we used included duplexing invitations and rsvps, foil stamped invites, foil stamped rsvps, die cutting labels, letterpress coasters, and some fun twine binding to finish it all off.
We attended the completely SOLD OUT faux wedding, met with guests, had dinner, partied and danced the night away alongside out other participating vendors and guests. We'll definitely be doing this again!
For a letterpress printer, there's nothing more fun than seeing a Heidelberg in the papers! So Letterpress printing and the Star Tribune?! ... well... sorta! We were visited last week by a writer and photographer from the Star Tribune. They we're researching for an article that came out last Sunday. The article was in celebration of the 1st anniversary of the light rail titled "University Avenue, Hopes are High!" The article mentioned our little shop and talked some about what the light rail has meant for us. Trends will come and go but classic black on white will never get old. Never underestimate just how important your wedding invitations can be. They are the first glimpse your guests will get of what is to come and they truly set the tone. With this Benson + Robbins invitation suite, the couple simply commented, "we want a design we're going to love in 50 years time." We went typographic with the layout and ultimately I think these letterpress wedding invitations really nailed it. Grateful to work with Julie and George and we wish them the best on their wedding day!
Dig on these absolutely beautiful gold foil business cards. They're trimmed at a stylish 2.5" square dimension and printed double sided on our single-ply house stock. We just finished these super cute cards for Nicola Harger. She's a photographer based in the North Loop area and her work is absolutely stunning. Finally got my hands on a few of the pictures from Katie and Aaron's wedding. Their wedding was featured on the Knot some time ago but I'd had a really hard time finding the pics to upload. Today I was surprised to see that the images and the original feature were magically linked to our Knot profile! Katie is an amazing illustrator and she and Aaron designed the invitation suite together. Together with Dick & Jane, we nailed down the colors, paper and final details. Everything turned out wonderfully and the pics from the ceremony/reception were just AMAZING! Have a look for yourself!

These sat on the table begging to be photographed for months but we'd just been too busy to get a photo session in. Finally, we managed to make it happen this afternoon. True to our city, here's a really wonderful Minneapolis skyline wedding invitation set we did for T&M. We talked about a few different directions for the invitation set but once we worked up the art for the city skyline, the answer was clear and we ran with it! Another one for the books! This piece was designed by the groom and she really had her mind set on black foil over black stock with the varnish. I think we were all a little nervous if this was going to work out as well as we all had hoped. However, in the end, the invitation suite really exceed everyones expectations. This is a really great example of just how much a simple black can in-fact be quite a complex beast with a lot of shade variation. We're so grateful to Stephanie for having the guts to stick to her guns and see this black-on-black concept all the way to the end!
We do a lot of dark colors but occasionally we're mixing up something so delicious you just want to try a little taste. But seriously... DO NOT TASTE INK - IT'S GROSS. Maybe it's just us but around here, it's already starting to feel like spring! We've made it through the grey part of the winter and the sun is shining. We just got a picture sent from a photographer ASHLEYMICHELLE who got a fabulous shot of one of our invitation sets completed back in 2014. So much VIBE! The set features fuscia and gold foil with calligraphy, color coordinated envelopes and FANTASTIC envelope liners! I'm looking at this arrangement as a whole and it's a real marvel. Thanks so much to the client and photography studio for sending this over. - You're the best!

Often time we wonder what happens to the pieces we produce for customers. The jobs can be so different from one to the next.
We received an email from a past client, Jordan Fretz who had us produce a set of very elaborate coasters. Turns out the final product was packaged in pairs for guests and included a pair of individually wrapped bags of tea and honey. Very cool idea indeed! Jordan did a great job on these and we just wanted to share a quick pic of the coasters for all to enjoy.

It's been a busy month in the studio with the holidays fast approaching. We just finished up these sweet double sided business cards on 2-ply paper. We can't get enough of this color combo!
We've had a few inquiries in this past week about letterpress wedding invitations printed in a gold ink. I thought it might be good to show an example here on the letterpress blog. I've included a pic below of a project we printed with a gold ink. The result is clean and luxurious contrast.
